Flu season is here, now it’s time to get the flu shot

Every year thousands of people in the United States die from the flu, and many more are hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

For convenient prevention, Sunset Community Health Center is offering the vaccine for free.

CDC reports the flu has a variety of symptoms ranging from fever and chills to diarrhea and vomiting.

Children, people over 65, pregnant women, and people with chronic health conditions are most encouraged to get the vaccine.

For the past nine years, Sunset Health has run its Wellness on Wheels Flu Campaign.

Its trailer moves around to different locations in the community offering the flu vaccine at no cost.

This program is part of Sunset Health’s commitment to be part of a healthier community.

“A lot of times people don’t get the flu vaccine because either they don’t have insurance or because they feel it’s too costly,” said Lucy Murrieta, Community Relations Director at Sunset Health. “We want to make sure everyone has access to medical care services.”

Murrieta said Sunset Health gives out over 200 flu vaccines each day during the campaign.

Everyone is welcome and no appointment is needed.

Sunset Health’s next event will be on Saturday, November 9 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Welton Community Center.
