Global week of Mexico unites Calexico community

This week is global week of Mexico. People across the globe are demonstrating their Mexican culture by sharing their talent in the communities they live in. The Mexican consulate in Calexico took part in the initiative. Certified nutritionist Jacqueline Banuelos kicked off the week, serving community members with Mexican food, rich in history and in nutrients. ” Guacamole, quesadillas, and chocolate. This was our focus today. These are all meals that are easy to make. They don’t take a lot of time, and they are healthy, ” said Banuelos .
Banuelos , a native of Guadalajara, brought a taste of her homeland, she says she wants the community to feel like they’re in the kitchen cooking with family.
She emphasized the importance of keeping these traditional recipes alive.

” To have a sense of belonging, and of your roots, it centers you. I’m grateful that this country has allowed me to keep my traditions, ” said Banuelos .

” This is taking place in all parts of the world where there is a Mexican Consulate. Here in the U.S. we have 50. Events like this one are organized by community members who want to share Mexico’s culture. Today she united the community through food and by sharing the nutritional value some of our basic ingredients have, ” said Mario Beltran, Consul of Community Affairs.

” Hipanics , we love to eat a little of everything and savor everything especially if it’s spicy. Today I got to learn healthy tips. It’s beautiful to have a community that aims to unite us, ” said Lucia Haro Rodriguez.
Banuelos says there’s something about Mexican food that brings cultures together.

” I’ve had the opportunity to be in unique parts of the world and people look for the food, for me it’s awesome to share that with them to bring them a piece of Mexico, ” Banuelos .
