YPD: 3-year-old hospitalized after consuming Halloween candy

A three-year-old was hospitalized Thursday after police believe he ate an unwrapped gummy fish candy laced with THC from a trick-or-treating event in Yuma.

The Yuma Police Department ( YPD ) said the parents stated they attended the Trick-or-Treating on Main Street and the Scary and Safe Trick or Treat at the Yuma Fairgrounds.

The child reported feeling dizzy/queasy, had dilated pupils, and expressed abnormal behavior after consuming the candy.

When officers responded to the scene, they searched through the remaining Halloween candy inside the toddler’s bucket.

YPD said the unwrapped red gummy type candy was located in one of the buckets.

According to YPD , the piece of candy resembles a redfish type of chewable gummy that is known to be laced with Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. The piece of candy was taken for further testing.

Reports said the child is expected to be in good condition.

YPD advises the community to go through all of your children’s candy and look for any unwrapped or red gummy item that resembles a fish.

The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this incident to please call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
