Suspect in storage unit theft arrested

A man suspected of burglarizing six storage units in Calexico is now in custody.

The Calexico Police Department (CPD) said an officer on patrol recognized the man from surveillance video at the storage facility.

The storage facility burglarized is on the west side of Calexico near Las Palmas Swap Meet.

Police were able to locate and arrest the suspect at his residence.

According to police, they were able to recover stolen property that the suspect was keeping at his home.

The items recovered included dozens of electronics, clothes, paperwork, and other miscellaneous items.

“He was kicked out of that facility due to theft incidents in the past,” said Ismael Granados, CPD officer.

“Officers interviewed him. During the interview he admitted to entering to six storage units at the facility,” said Granados.

CPD says the suspect was on active probation and was booked into the Imperial County Jail.
