Breast cancer survivor shares story: A message of hope

A local cancer survivor is using her story to pave the way for those battling with the illness to help rebuild their confidence.

67-year-old Kathie Morgan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 when she was 45-years-old. Morgan said that at that moment, her life took a turn.

“I thought going to die and I didn’t want to,” said Morgan.

Morgan battled her way through treatments for almost a year but did say her right-week radiation treatments took her energy away.

“Radiation really zapped my strength, I was very tired, dealt with a lot of burns,” said Morgan.

Despite the uncertainty, she emphasized the unconditional love and support she received from her family. And helped her get through the toughest moment in her life.

“I told myself that I have to live, I have children and I’m going to live,” said Morgan.

Morgan now dedicated her time to helping other cancer patients that come through the cancer center in Yuma.

“I always tell them there is something to look forward too, to make goals for themselves,” said Morgan.
