Police determine school threat is false

UPDATE

A press release provided by Crane Schools said the Yuma Police Department ( YPD ) determined the threat made to the school was found to be unfounded Thursday.

Reports said the Yuma Police Department is no longer investigating the situation.

Crane Schools issued a statement saying:

” As always, our top priority is the safety, security, and wellbeing of our students and staff. The school administration is actively completing an onsite follow-up investigation at this time. Thank you to Yuma Police Department for their diligent efforts and support through this process. ”

A gun threat leads the school district to beef up security at Crane Middle School.

The Crane School District confirms a student told at least one of their classmates they planned to bring a gun to school Thursday.

It’s unclear if the student had malicious intentions. It’s also unknown if the student was a boy or a girl.

School administrators have contacted Yuma Police Department. Officers will increase patrols around the school. There have been no arrests.

The school district advised parents of the situation Wednesday night in an email.

Classes will be held as usual.
