Students, athletes, and fans had to evacuate from a high school football game in Phoenix Friday night after gunfire erupted near the stadium.

The Arizona Republic says it happened at Betty Fairfax High School.

Witness report hearing multiple shots and seeing players ducking and leaving the field. The stadium emptied out a short time later.

Phoenix police say the gunfire happened near the school, but not on the field.

Paramedics did take away one football player, but it’s unclear if his injuries were related to the gun shots.
