Active shooting suspect in custody

BREAKING NEWS: Yuma County Sheriff’s Deputies report an active shooter in the area of Avenue B and County 17 in Somerton .

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired around 6:30 Friday evening in the 2800 block of Donley Avenue. They arrived to encounter a man firing multiple rounds from a house. We have confirmed that house is the shooter’s home.

Witnesses report hearing as many as 20 shots. So far no reports of injuries.

Deputies have evacuated people from neighboring homes. They urge people to stay away from the area along Avenue B between County 16th and County 17th streets until the situation is resolved.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement is on the scene, and an ambulance is on standby.
