Suspect arrested after shooting at Chevron

A 24-year-old man is behind bars as a result of Wednesday night’s shooting at the Chevron gas station on 32nd Street and Avenue B.

The Yuma Police Department ( YPD ) arrested Fernando Chavez on two charges of aggravated assault.

Officers responded to the gas station just after 8:00 p.m. and found a 21-year-old man who was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to YPD .

Witnesses at the gas station said they heard three gunshots go off.

Chavez was convicted on a prior felony charge of attempted armed robbery in 2015.

He is being held on a $250,000 secured bond and is expected back in court Monday.
