Former Marine to stand trial for murder next week

The trial of a former U.S. Marine accused of murdering his baby stepdaughter is expected to get underway next week.

Jared Cardwell faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of the 20-month-old little girl.

The baby was found unconscious in base housing at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in May 2015. A medical examiner says she died of blunt force trauma to the head. He also noted what appeared to be chemical burns on the little girl’s face.
