YPD: Be aware of “flashing yellow arrow”

The Yuma Police Department is warning drivers of a flashing yellow arrow traffic signal that is coming to 4 th Avenue and 8 th Street on October 28 th . The flashing yellow arrow means drivers can make a left turn, but only when it is safe to do so. While on the roads, it’s important to use caution and yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic , as those drivers will have a green light.

With more traffic on local roads , and winter birds arriving, there is a larger backup of traffic at intersections. With the new yellow flashing arrows, it should help traffic operate smoother during each signal cycle. The flashing yellow arrow does not replace the solid yellow arrow, it is just an addition to traffic signal.

The Yuma Police Department asks that everyone be patient while drivers get adjusted to the change.

The flashing yellow arrow is already in some cities in Arizona and in other states.
