Former police officer arrested for shooting unarmed woman
A former Fort Worth police officer now faces murder charges for shooting a man through a window in her home.
Police arrested Aaron Dean Monday afternoon. Just hours before, Dean resigned from the police department. Fort Worth’s interim police chief says he would have fired the officer had he not quit.
Dean shot Atatiana Jefferson Saturday through a window only accessible from the home’s fenced-in back yard. Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus says there’s no indication police officers knocked on the door or identified themselves prior to the gun fire.
Police were performing a welfare check at the home after getting a report about an open door from a neighbor. It was not considered an emergency call.
