Gala spotlights survivors of domestic violence

It’s an evening of hope and laughter.

The 5th “Annual Mariposa Award Fundraiser Gala Friday night for Woman Haven, gives survivors of domestic violence the stage to tell their story.

Held at the Imperial Valley Expo, the event also raises funds to continue the organization’s effort to provide shelter and resources to victims of domestic abuse.

Woman Haven Executive Director, Gina Vargas hopes others can hear the stories of victims and seek help if they or someone they know is experiencing abuse.

“That they’re not alone through the whole path. That they don’t have to walk through this path alone. That Woman Haven is there to help hold their hand until they can walk by themselves and independently,” said Vargas.

The award is named after a delicate flower that miraculously grows even in the harshest conditions.

The event is open to the public with a minimum $60 donation.
