Sentencing delayed for Somerton man convicted of murdering ex-girlfriend

A judge has delayed sentencing for the Somerton man convicted of stalking and executing the mother of his children.

In August a jury found Oscar Quintero guilty of premeditated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and three charges of aggravated assault.

A judge was supposed to sentence Quintero today. However, the defense filed a motion that will compel the judge to examine all mitigating and aggravating factors in the case before handing down a sentence.

That will happen during a hearing scheduled for October 21, 2019 .

Quintero’s mother and brother are expected to speak on his behalf.

Quintero shot his ex-girlfriend to death and critically injured one of her co-workers in a Somerton parking lot in January 2018.

Prosecutors say he stalked Clarissa Medina and Hugo Medina for hours before pulling the trigger. The defense claims it was a crime of passion.
