Rejoining the workforce after a career break

Rejoining the workforce can be a scary thing for some people because of how hard it is to jump back in. Arizona @ Work is trying to make things easier for those on the job hunt.

According to Arizona @ Work officials, Arizona’s unemployment rate is at 5%, and Yuma is at 24%.

Some of those who are unemployed are those who have taken a career break and are trying to rejoin the workforce.

There are many reasons as too why people take career breaks such as needing someone to watch their children, a death in the family, being incarcerated, or even divorce.

Experts said that the longer you stay out of the workforce, the harder it is to get back in because of the lack of experience and ever-changing technology.

Arizona @ Work sets out to help those who are on the job hunt by helping them with their search process, offering internships, returnships, and work experience.

It doesn’t just stop there as they also try to help those brush up on their interview skills.

“A lot of people think they’re good on interviewing for a job, and they’re not. And how you present yourself to the employer, everything from how you dress to how you shake their hand, how you look them in the eye, so there’s a lot of things if you’ve been out of the workforce, all these things need to be brushed upon,” says Arizona @ Work’s Employer Engagement Officer Patrick Goetz.

They also help with going back to school or receiving certain certifications for job training.
