Another accused drug smuggler busted with kids in the car
For the second time in less than a week, Border Patrol agents at the Pine Valley checkpoint have arrested a woman for smuggling drugs with her children in the car.
The latest bust happened around 6:30 Wednesday evening.
Agents say drug dogs alerted them to a problem with a Nissan Murano containing a woman and her two young children.
Further inspection revealed 160 packages of methamphetamine. The drugs were hidden in the SUV’s rear cargo area, inside its rear bumper, in the center console, in all four doors, and inside the spare tire.
The meth weighed nearly 158-pounds. It has a street value of more than $360-thousand.
Agents arrested a 32-year-old U.S. citizen. They released her two children to a family member.
This is the second time this week agents at the Pine Valley Immigration checkpoint have arrested a mother for smuggling drugs with a child in the car.
On Tuesday they took a Mexican national into custody after discovering 68-pounds of meth in her vehicle in close proximity to her young son. Agents turned the boy over to Child Protective Services.
