Native American leaders discuss Arizona voting issues
A reduction in the number of polling stations and restrictions on early voting have disenfranchised members of Arizona’s Native American communities. That’s the claim tribal leaders made to a panel of U.S. Representatives.
Members of the House elections subcommittee and members of Arizona’s Congressional delegation met in Phoenix Tuesday to discuss voter issues.
Native leaders told lawmakers many tribal members live in isolated, rural areas and have limited access to voting locations. Navajo Nation president Jonathan Nez also said many use Navajo as their primary language and rarely have access to adequate translation services.
