Border Patrol prevents convicted sex offenders from re-entering country

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents stop two convicted sex offenders from re-entering the United States over the weekend.

The first arrest came around five Friday evening about 22-miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry.

A record check reveal the suspect was Oscar Rodriguez-Espinoza, a 52-year-old Mexican national. In 2003 a jury convicted him of lewd and lacivious acts with a child under 14. The same jurors found him guilty of attempted murder.

Rodriguez-Espinoza served 11-years in prison before a judge deported him in September of 2011 .

He’s in federal custody awaiting prosecution.

Then, around two Saturday morning, agents picked up a second man about a half-mile east of the Calexico Port.

A records check revealed the suspect to be 27-year-old Jose Alonso Vazquez-Ramirez. Vazquez-Ramirez was convicted of sex with a minor in 2013, and deported in the same year.

He too is being held in federal custody pending prosecution.

So far in 2019, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 25 individuals either convicted of, or wanted for, sexual assault charges.
