One cyclist dead and three others injured in fatal hit-and-run on Highway 111

A fatal hit-and-run on Highway 111 Sunday morning, left a 44-year-old cyclist dead and three others injured.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the four cyclists who were Mexican nationals were traveling north on Highway 111, when a 31-year-old woman veered off the road in her vehicle and struck the group.

CHP said the suspect was drinking and was found to be unlicensed. She fled the scene but was shortly apprehended by law enforcement.

The suspect was booked into the Imperial County Jail on charges of a felony hit-and-run.

One of the cyclists in the group was severely injured while the other two suffered minor injuries.
