Two men arrested for smuggling methamphetamine on Highway 86

Two men were arrested by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents after attempting to smuggle over 31 pounds of methamphetamine Thursday.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said two men approached the immigration checkpoint on Highway 86 in a white Ford F-250 when they were referred for further investigation.

CBP said a canine alerted to the vehicle where agents discovered 30 sealed packages concealed behind the auxilary tank located in the bed of the truck.

The packages were examined and tested positive for methamphetamine.

According to CBP, the combined weight of the package totaled 31.53 pounds, with an estimated street value of $78,825.

The driver, a 48 -year-old man , and the male passenger, both United States citizens , were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the vehicle and narcotics for further investigation.
