3.8-magnitude earthquake reported near Imperial County

The United States Geological Survey is reporting a preliminary 3.8-magnitude earthquake near Imperial County, in an area located near the San Andreas fault.

The earthquake happened at 11:11 a.m. Monday, September 16th ..

According to the U.S.G.S., The epicenter is in an area called Bombay Beach, which is located near the Salton Sea.

The depth of the quake was 3.1 km and its location was 5 km WNW of Bombay Beach, CA according to a computer-generated message from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Bombay Beach is located in the Brawley Seismic Zone, which lies near the southern terminus of the San Andreas Fault.

According to the USGS Community Intensity map, there have been reports of people feeling the shake along the Salton Sea and through Indo.

No word on whether there will be aftershocks or if any structures were damaged.
