San Luis expanding Senior Center

The City of San Luis received a grant from the Arizona Department of Housing to complete the San Luis Senior Expansion.

The expansion project received a total of $459,764 in Federal Community Development Block Grant ( CDBG ) funds. The San Luis Senior Center will add 2,880-square-feet which will allow the center to expand multi-purpose rooms, add restrooms, and remodel the 3,200-square-feet of existing interior space.

Remodeling the interior will be reconfiguration of the inside of the front entrance, fresh paint and expandable room dividers to buffer sound for different activities, events, and meetings held at the center.

According to the City of San Luis, they applied for the Arizona Department of Housing for Regional Account CDBG funds for the Senior Center Expansion Project in April. In that same month, the San Luis City Council committed to matching the funding received for the construction and other amenities with the project.

“The San Luis Senior Center expansion has been in discussions within in this Administration,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “It is such an exciting time for all of us to know the project will soon begin, we can not wait to see all the new additions,” he added.

“I can truly say it is a great success to have been awarded the funding,” stated Senior Center Manager Aracely De La Hoya. “With the increasing number of local senior residents participating daily, we are all excited to see the result of this project,” she added.
