Charity Car Show set for Saturday

On Saturday the Yuma Community is hosting their Annual Charity Car Show to help the families of fallen heroes.

Intertwined within all the horror stories of September 11 are the first responders who charged into the Twin Towers as they came crashing down. A piece of the World Trade Center was placed in Yuma at Fire Station One; a reminder to every American and our first responders.

In a moments notice, a call can ring out at any given fire station and those men and women will rush to a scene. Their goal is to protect life and limit destruction of property. Each engagement can cost them their lives, but the threat is overshadowed by the drive to help those in need.

Although, it takes a special kind of person to take on such a heavy responsibility, they’re human and will also call for help.

When the time comes and a first responder needs assistance; there are groups waiting to lend a helping hand. One of which is the United Yuma Firefighter’s Association which uses funds to help when a brother or sister is ill, or in need financial help.

Funds that come from events such as their Annual Hot Summer Nights Car Show. Some of their funds become emergency funds for families of fallen firefighters and police officers.

On Saturday, the southern portion of Yuma Historic Downtown District will be filled with cars, motorcycles and much more. The Yuma Communities answer to their call for help. Car owners pay a fee to support the cause and show off their projects. Those who attend can help in their own way by purchasing merchandise and making donations to their cause. The annual car show is held during the City of Yuma’s block party. The block party starts at 4 pm and the car show starts promptly at 6 pm.
