One injured after 2-car crash in Yuma

An individual was transported to the hospital Tuesday night after colliding with another vehicle on South Avenue B and West 8th Street, according to authorities.

The Yuma Police Department (YPD) said the investigation revealed the driver of a red 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier failed to stop for the red light at 8th Street while traveling northbound on South Avenue B.

According to YPD, the driver of the Cavalier collided in the intersection with a white 2018 Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound on West 8th Street.

The driver of the Cavalier was unrestrained and required extrication by the Yuma Fire Department and transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The YPD Traffic Unit responded and continued the investigation. The intersections were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation, YPD reported.
