National Weather Service issues dust storm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a dust storm warning for Northwestern Yuma County and Southeastern Imperial County Wednesday evening.

The warning was sent out at approximately 6:43 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.

NWS said at 6:43 p.m. a wall of dust was along a line extending from 20-miles north of Tyson to 11-miles northeast of Ligurta to near Wellton , moving west at 35-mph.

There is less than a quarter mile of visibility with strong winds that exceed 50-mph.

AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 1 and 36, CA Interstate 8 between mile markers 83 and 96, and AZ Route 95 between mile markers 29 and 73 are all impacted by the dust storm.

The locations impacted include Yuma, Somerton , Martinez Lake, Fortuna Foothills, Wellton , Kinter , Andrade , Winterhaven , Araby, Yuma Proving Ground, Blaisdell , Ligurta , and Cibola .

NWS reports that dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If you are driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If you happen to be caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the break.
