Military Matters: Honoring Staff Sgt. Brandon Hunter

For this week’s Military Matters, we honor Staff Sgt. Brandon Hunter

Staff Sgt. Brandon Hunter is a proud member of the Airborne Test Force, stationed at Yuma Proving Ground.

He works as a Test Parachutist/ Parachute Rigger and serves as the drop zone safety officer and is responsible for preparing the drop zone to receive jumpers.

In this spare time Staff Sgt. Hunter stays busy by coaching freshman football at Gila Ridge High School, spending time with his 13-year old twins, four-wheeling with his Dad and fishing. He also currently attending college working on his degree.

In May 2004 Hunter graduated from the George Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles, CA.

He enlisted in the U. S. Army in August of 2006 and completed Basic Combat Training in Ft Jackson, SC.

He then proceeded to Ft Benning , GA for Basic Airborne Training graduating December of 2006 and earning his Basic Parachutist Badge.

Upon graduating Airborne School, he was sent to FT Lee, VA to complete the Advanced Individual Training (AIT).

Upon completion of AIT he was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty 92R10 (Parachute Rigger).

His military and civilian education include Advanced Leader Course, Military Freefall Jumpmaster Course, Basic Leader Course, Jumpmaster Course, Military Freefall Parachutist Course, Airborne Course, Air Load Inspector Course, Sling Load Inspector Course, and is currently enrolled at Ashford University with the degree plan for organizational management.

Hunter’s assignments include 623rd QM CO. FT. Bragg, NC as a maintenance specialist, Special Warfare Center and School, FT. Bragg, NC as a parachute packer and Squad Leader, 1st Special Forces Group (A), Torii Station, Okinawa, Japan as Squad Leader/ Shop Foreman, and as Maintenance NCOIC in Yuma Proving Grounds Yuma, AZ.

Some of Hunter’s awards and decorations include, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC ), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC ), Army Good Conduct Medal (4 OLC ), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Basic Parachutist Badge, Master Military Freefall Parachutist Badge, and the Parachute Rigger Badge.

Hunter’s hobbies include video gaming, coaching football, tattoos, four wheeling with his dad, fishing, and spending time with his kids.

He is the oldest of three, he has two sisters.

He has thirteen year old twins, boy and girl, and one dog named Domino.
