Labor Day: Honoring those who serve in the community

On this Labor Day, most people are off of work enjoying time with their family or out of town for vacation. However, those in uniform are working around the clock ensuring the safety of the community.

Christian Pimental, a Firefighter with the Somerton Fire Department (SFD) who’s been working in the line of duty for roughly seven months after he went through a program that taught him the ropes of it. Teaching him about what it takes to wear the uniform.

“I saw what they did, I loved the energy at the fire station, ever since that was my focus was to wear the firefighter uniform,” said Pimental.

However, holding the title of a firefighter can take an emotional tole. Just two months into the job, Pimental experienced a call of service that changed his whole world. A call that left a mark in his heart until this day.

“I saw him, he saw me and I just froze for a couple of seconds like saying “Do I know this person?”I know who he is, we transported him to the hospital and that’s when they told us he was trounced dead,” said Pimental.
