2 dead after motorcycle crash in Somerton

Authorities said two people are dead after a fatal motorcycle crash on South Highway 95 and West County 17th Street, Tuesday evening.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office ( YCSO ) said a yellow Italika T-125 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on County 17th Street with no lights. The motorcycle entered the intersection at Highway 95 and was struck by a 2010 Kia sedan traveling northbound on Highway 95.

YCSO said the driver, a man, and the passenger, a woman, of the motorcycle were both thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. The driver of the motorcycle landed in the roadway and was ran over by a 2010 Toyota Camry that was traveling northbound on Highway 95 as well.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to YCSO , no arrests were made and both drivers of the vehicles involved remained at the scene.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Critical Accident Response Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
