San Luis, MX residents fearful due to violence

Countless people cross over the San Luis Port of Entry every single day. During the early hours of the afternoon, many of these people are returning to their homes just across the border. The violence just across has seen a huge increase and many of those residents that are surrounded by the violence that has senselessly taken the lives of many.

Just this past week, two deaths were reported and at least 8 people were injured. Many of the residents even claim that the deaths are now even taking place in broad daylight.

One resident of San Luis, Mexico who was crossing back to get home mentioned countless times of incidents where random attacks happened.

” By the house, they killed three, ” said the man who identified as Roberto. ” Then behind a taco stand they killed a woman, then around the corner they killed another three. ”

Much of the violence and crime there has residents on high alert, some have resorted to changing routines. Driving with unlocked doors is one of those habits and some have even considered not making full stops at stop signs because of fear of a random attack or assault.

Mirna Castaneda mentioned that she is one of those residents who have pondered the dangerous move for her safety’s sake.

“It just gets even sadder you can’t trust to go out anywhere like you used to, ” said Castaneda. “When driving around you sometimes double-think stopping at stop signs because that’s where they assault you, they open your car and steal from you. ”

The peace of mind of residents and visitors is being snatched by the violence, other residents and visitors, like Hilario Gonzalez, who simply cross over to see family or for a quick errand are re-considering every time they cross.

” I don’t even want to go over anymore, ” said Gonzalez. ” Due to that very reason.
