PMH celebrates the importance of breastfeeding with “Love and Latch” event
Pioneers Memorial Hospital celebrated National Breastfeeding Month with its 2nd annual ” Love and Latch ” event Friday.
Bringing awareness to the importance of breastfeeding for newborns and mothers.
Graciela Ibarra , who’s expecting her second child said it’s a one of a kind bond between a mother and her newborn.
” I think that’s something that you share and it’s unbreakable. And it won’t ever go away. I think that’s the best feeling ever. ”
The ” Love and Latch ” event at Pioneers Memorial helps mothers like Ibarra share not only their success stories but also their struggles.
Ibarra added, ” Your milk supply can go low. Or you know they do help you know what to do make your milk supply go up. Or you know you’re just feeling down. You know in general you’re stressed all the time making sure that you’re baby’s getting enough. You know how do you know. So you know it is helpful that other mothers come together, and they help you through that. ”
The event also highlighted the importance of breastfeeding and it’s benefits.
April Hale, a lactation consultant at Pioneers Memorial Hospital said, ” Mom needs to navigate a lot of feeding issues through their journey with their babies and prenatally too and a lot of decision-making. So I think it’s important that we’re available to the moms and the entire family. ”
Health officials said breastfeeding is natural and no mother should be ashamed to do it in public.
Venessa Salgado , also a lactation Consultant at Pioneers Memorial Hospital said, ” We try our very best to empower and normalize breastfeeding. So that there isn’t this negative stigma to breastfeeding and help them just feel comfortable.
But Kamiron Cason , a mother of two said breastfeeding is also a team effort.
” I need his support a lot cause there like a bunch little things that I can’t do that he can do while I’m nursing the baby, ” said Cason .
