Military Matters: Land, Air and now Sea
In Military Matters News, drones have been taking modern warfare to new heights, and presently the armed forces have been using unmanned vehicles both in the air and on the ground.
The U.S. Navy has also been developing their own unmanned vehicles in the form of “Large Unmanned Surface Vehicles” ( LUSV ), and are on track to building ten in the next five years.
The Navy has already put in requests for two LUSV’s which will be approximately 200-feet to 300-feet long and weigh roughly 2,000 tons. The vehicles will be able to be controlled from afar, or programed to complete missions. The LUSV would also act as a magazine for larger destroyers carrying a large payload of weapons which can be transferred to a ship during a fight.
The U.S. Navy’s Sea Hunter has successfully completed an unmanned mission from Mainland U.S. to Hawaii. The new ships will be able to cruise for thousands of miles with or without a crew and would also act as a scout to larger ships like carriers or destroyers. China has also been in the works of developing unmanned ships.
