Lets Dance Yuma showcases local talent

Let’s Dance is a unique dance festival in its inaugural year that brings together different dance studios from Yuma for a three-day celebration of dance.

Instructors and dance crews from all over the state were also invited to take part in the event. The event kicked off on Friday and ended on Sunday.

“It was a great event to showcase all the dance crews and local artists of Yuma,” said Eugene Garcia, the technical supervisor who helped coordinate the festival. “We had all sorts of dance styles present, we had tap dance, we had ballet. It was really amazing.”

The festivities are divided into two parts, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday.

The first part is a variety of dance classes taught by regional dance professionals. The second was a performance by all teams and soloists on the historic stage of Yuma Art Center.

“We don’t realize how much talent is here in Yuma,” said Garcia. “Our goal was just to show Yuma just how much talent there really is in this city.”

This event was made possible through special funding from the Flinn Foundation.

The Flinn Foundation’s goal is to improve the quality of life in Arizona to benefit future generations and improve the financial and creative health of Arizona’s arts and culture organizations.

Let’s Dance is only in its first year and is expected to grow in participation in the upcoming years.
