Calexico PD arrests 2 suspects for alleged drug related charges
This past weekend, the Calexico Police Department said two suspects were arrested after catching them in the middle of a drug deal.
Sgt. Sean Acuna, of the Calexico Police Department, said, “Officer on routine saw what appears to be a hand to hand transaction which he recognized from his training and experience.”
Officers found hundreds of dollars worth of drugs on the dealer.
“He was found to be in possession of 24 grams of meth. The approximate street value of $500.”
Sgt. Acuna said fewer drugs on the street lead to a drop in crime.
“You know any time we can take a drug dealer off the street it’s much better than arresting a drug user or somebody found in possession of methenamine cause we’re going after the actual source.”
Calexico resident, Glidys Virmontes, said it’s a win for the community.
“It’s good for our kids and it’s good for our whole community. As part of a Calexico resident, I’m glad that they’re doing that. Because it was a problem a while back but lately it’s been good,” said Virmontes.
Both suspects are facing charges.
Sgt. Acuna added, “The purchaser is looking at a misdemeanor charge of possession of meth. And the actual person that was selling is looking at possession for sale charge which is a felony.”
The 51-year-old suspect, who was accused of selling drugs, was booked into the Imperial County Jail on a bail of $5,000.
