Pet Talk: Meet Roy and Maxine

For this week’s Pet Talk, we meet two pets. A dog who is bound to cover you in equal amounts of love and slobber and a sleek beautiful cat.

Both are up for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

Meet Maxine, a three-year-old multi-colored domestic short hair.

Maxine has deep green eyes that will melt your heart.

She loves to have her head scratched and refused to let me walk away from her without one last moment of being pet.

She has a vivacious personality entertaining herself with the ball of string in her kennel.

And then there is Roy.

Roy is a special unique pup.

He is a three-year-old Chinese Sharpei who loves to give and receive hugs.

Though he sort of resembles Slimer, the ghost from “Ghostbusters”, he truly has the face only a mother could love.

The Sharpei breed is known as loyal, independent, and intelligent.

They are known for their broad “hippopotamus” muzzles; a blue-black tongue; tiny triangular ears; abundant folds of loose skin by their head, and a sandpapery coat.

A literal translation of Sharpei means “sand skin.”

Roy is potty trained but needs to be in a home where he is the only dog.

Both pets are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

This Wednesday, the Humane Society will be holding a take over event and fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings in Yuma Palms.

The restaurant will be donating 10 percent of the proceeds to the shelter all day long.
