Wife of suspected felon speaks following his arrest

The man that Yuma police suspect of stealing a vehicle near County 15th Street and Highway 95 appeared in court Thursday morning after failing to appear at his last court hearing for a separate case.

Court documents revealed that a warrant was issued for his arrest after failing to appear in court in July for allegedly barricading himself inside a home from the police.

Thursday’s hearing did not mention the stolen vehicle incident.

The suspect’s wife, Monique Guerrero told KYMA that Garcia was wrongly accused.

“He didn’t steal a vehicle because he was borrowing his friend’s car, ” said Guerrero. ” But at the moment, he said it was stolen, because he was scared because he knew David was already wanted.”

Guerrero’s statement was not confirmed by Yuma Police. Garcia’s next status conference is scheduled for August 16 at 8:30 a.m.
