Yuma Sector seizes nearly $230K in methamphetamine

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working at an immigration checkpoint said they seized almost 100 pounds of methamphetamine and made one arrest on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., Wellton Station agents working the Interstate 8 Immigration Checkpoint said they referred a tan 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the secondary inspection area after a K9 alerted them to the vehicle.

Agents said they discovered multiple packages of a white substance concealed in all four doors of the vehicle and in a rear quarter panel. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $229,770.

The driver, a 42-year-old man who agents said was a lawfully admitted permanent resident from Mexico, was arrested for controlled substance violations. The vehicle and narcotics were seized.
