San Diego Comic-Con kicks off tonight!
San Diego Comic-Con 2019 officially kicked off Wednesday with preview night. Where hundreds of thousands are expected to pack the San Diego convention center this week.
San Diego Comic-Con celebrated 50 years of bringing pop culture to fans. David Glanzer , San Diego Comic-Con International Spokesperson said they’ll be paying respects to the trailblazers of the con.
Glanzer said, ” But I think one of the things that’s going to be really remarkable is to look back at where we’ve come from. We don’t do a lot of that. And I think especially for fans and attendees it’ll be a great insight into the journey that brought us to where we are today. ”
Glanzer said SDCC has grown tremendously from its humble beginnings when it held its first convention in a local hotel.
” It’s truly mind-boggling. And the truth of the matter is we’ve outgrown the San Diego Convention Center. That’s where you’ll see this weekend a lot of stuff across the street. Meeting in area hotels. Meetings far away still. So I think there’s certainly appetite for it. I think we try to put on the type of convention we want to attend. And that certainly seems to resonate with the public, ” Glanzer said.
Steven Aguilar, a comic-con veteran for the last 6 years was is first in line for preview night and hopes to get his hands on something rare.
Aguilar said, ” Well it’s the exclusivity. So I mean they’re very limited numbers. They’re different variants. It really allows you to have something that nobody else will have for that convention. ”
For Elizabeth Bentley who’s attending the con with her son and his friend, it’s about shared experiences with loved ones.
Bentley said, ” Well it’s a plus you’ll never forget it. We have come before and every year there are new surprises. And they learn something fun, new year. Get interested in some new pop culture. ”
Her son Noah Lambert looks forward to the camaraderie with his best friend.
” It’s really exciting to like be with him. It’s memorable I guess, ” said Lambert.
Tune in for the rest of the week as News 11 continues their San Diego comic con coverage.
