Arrest warrant issued for alleged barricade suspect

A local man who allegedly barricaded himself inside a home from police and was wanted for multiple felony charges failed to appear in court Tuesday.

David Garcia, 34, was charged with first-degree burglary while possessing a deadly weapon, weapon misconduct, and criminal trespass on November 21, 2018.

Yuma Police said Garcia evaded officers multiple times when he was spotted in a residential area on 11th Avenue on suspicion of the charges he was wanted for. Garcia then ran into an occupied residence, which resulted in an hour standoff with police until Garcia was taken into custody.

The public defender representing Garcia for this court hearing told the judge that Garcia is a life-long resident of Yuma, and a former restaurant employee. He also said Garcia has a daughter.

Court records show Garcia was guilty in 2005 for drug charges and aggravated harassment. He was guilty in 2012 for possession/use of a weapon.

A warrant was issued for his arrest. Garcia will be held at a $25,000 bond.
