Editors Note: In the broadcast version of this story our reporter used video of the wrong hotel. That video has since been removed and has not ties to this story.

Calexico Police arrested a 36-year-old homeless man Sunday morning after he allegedly attempted to rape a maid at a local hotel.

Authorities said the suspect entered a hotel and approached the maid as she was cleaning.

Sgt. Armando Orozco of the Calexico Police Department said, ” The suspect had attempted to force into one of the rooms that she was cleaning. And she was able to break away from him. While he was attempting to put her inside the room. ”

As the maid fled, the suspect caught up to her and sexually assaulted her. But a hotel guest came to her rescue.

” She began to scream and got the attention of another hotel guest. And that hotel guest was able to take that guy off the female and the guy left the scene from there, ” said Orozco.

Police said the hotel guest stopped the suspect from doing more harm to her.

“He stopped it completely. Had he not been there you know this lady could have been hurt worse. Or it would have continued on, ” Orozco said.

The suspect was eventually caught in the alley behind the hotel. Law enforcement said the suspect had prior criminal offenses.

Orozco said, “With several prior arrests for burglary and possession of narcotics. ”

Authorities said he’s facing serious crimes.

Sgt. Orozco added, “False imprisonment. He’s also facing attempted rape and sexual battery. ”

After hearing the sexual assault occurred near her home, Claudia Monges said she’ll be more vigilant.

” It is very scary. I don’t want anything to happen to me or anyone I love you know. Anyone I know. This makes people more aware of what’s going on in our neighborhood, ” said Monges .

The suspect was booked into the Imperial County jail on a bail of $100,000.
