Goodyear teacher sentenced to 20 years for molesting student
A former Goodyear teacher has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and two-lifetime terms of probation after she was found guilty of sexually abusing her 13-year-old student.
Azcentral reports Brittany Zamora’s sentencing comes more than a year after her initial arrest and will get credit for the 478 days she has served in prison.
Zamora graduated from Arizona State University and took a teaching job at Littleton Elementary School in Avondale and was awarded “Teacher of the Year” in 2016. Zamora was then recruited to teach at Las Brisas Academy by the previous assistant principal at Lilleton Elementary, azcentral reported.
Zamora was arrested in March 2018 and accused of having sexual relationships with one of her six-grade students at Las Brisas Academy. She was also accused of sending naked pictures of herself to the student.
Police reports recounted how she had sex with the boy multiple times in her car and classroom, and once with another 11-year-old student in the room. Azcentral reports the two sexually touched each other while her sixth-grade class was in session. Authorities said the student obliviously watched a movie while this incident happened.
According to azcentral, the victim’s family filed a civil lawsuit against Zamora’s husband, and Liberty Elementary School District after sexual abuse was revealed.
Zamora pleaded guilty to sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation of a minor, and public sexual indecency in June as part of a plea deal. She was previously charged with 15 felony counts including eight counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and a slew of other charges, azcentral reported.
