Border Patrol union explains how investigations are conducted

With the allegations spewing out of the third busiest sector, the Yuma Border Patrol union representative said allegations against agents have spiked.

Although President Mario Campos cannot comment on the active investigation, Campos said the union has seen a spike in allegations against agents overall since the illegal immigrant traffic entering the sector picked up at the end of 2018.

Campos explained to News 11 that there are several investigations each year but every investigation he has been involved with has come up to be unfounded.

The union represents agents whether it be for professional misconduct or for policy violations for not following company rules.

Campos explained what an investigation looks like.

“So they usually go to the office of inspector general first and the office of professional responsibility and then if either of these agencies deems that it is not necessary for them to investigate they’ll pass it along to the internal team with the agency that investigates allegations, ” said Campos.

Campos explained that each investigation is different and that it all depends on the allegations against the agent.

The case facing the Yuma Sector now that was first uncovered by NBC News Tuesday night is now under investigation by the inspector general.
