Arson suspect in custody following dumpster fires

One suspect is in custody after allegedly setting several dumpsters on fire in downtown Yuma Thursday evening, police said.

According to the Yuma Police Department (YPD), the suspect set two to three dumpsters on fire which have been contained.

YPD said after locating the suspect, the 33-year-old man waived a knife in a threatening manner while yelling at officers. The man dropped the knife but physically resisted arrest by fighting with the police. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, YPD said.

No damages to nearby buildings were reported. No injuries were reported as well.

The man was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on four counts of arson, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
