Local organizations sell fireworks to raise funds

It’s fireworks season here in the states, and local nonprofits are selling fireworks to raise money.

Organizations across the valley have partnered with TNT Fireworks to sell fireworks for the Fourth of July.

Selling fireworks in triple digit temperatures, isn’t ideal, but nonprofits say it’s a great way to raise funds during the summer months.

“It gets pretty hot around two and three, so I have water, and we have a fan, so that keeps me going through the day,” said Cynthia Garcia, Mas Que Vencedores member.

Garcia says it’s a sacrifice she’s willing to make because she knows the money raised is needed at her church.

” As a non-profit we try selling at fairs, like the children’s fair but sometimes you don’t get that much so for us it’s been a great help. Last year we sold out , our leftovers were only in one box so hopefully this year it will be the same, ” said Garcia.

According to TNT Fireworks, 15 non-profits currently have a fireworks stand in Imperial County.

Residents can buy fireworks at almost every city in the valley.

Organizations like Christ Community Church in Calexico ( CCC ), use part of the profits made to serve the community.

“We’re fundraising for the church and all the needs, we feed homeless on Wednesdays,” said Elba Ramirez, CCC member.

Although, raising funds is a main goal, Ramirez says it’s also about getting to know people and families in the community.

“It’s a great way to know our community, and they get to know us, more than the sales itself,” said Ramirez.

TNT Fireworks provides the fireworks, booth, and selling permits at no cost upfront.

Nonprofits are then able to keep a percentage of what they sell. Any unsold merchandise is sent back to the company.

Garcia is hoping to not have to send anything back.

” We get all the sales on the last day which is tomorrow, and today. So hopefully we’ll sell out this year, ” said Garcia.

TNT Fireworks stands are open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. including tomorrow on the Fourth of July.
