Multiple agencies battling 4-alarm fire in Heber

UPDATE: Plumes of smoke continue to be seen near Kubler ​​​​​​​ and Clark road.

Crews are on scene to continue to monitor pockets of vegetation that is still burning.

The roads are back up and running but the Imperial Valley fire department asks the public to keep their distance.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Imperial County Fire Department, along with multiple agencies, are battling a river bottom fire west of Heber Monday.

” Upon arrival, we found burning vegetation, about an acre or so. With the winds and the conditions, the fire quickly spread, ” explained Batallion Chief Angel Morales, Imperial County Fire Department.

The destruction left behind is now being cleaned up by fire crews.

According to the Imperial County Fire Department, the fire is located at Clark Road and Kubler Road and has been upgraded to a four-alarm fire. The fire department is receiving assistance from Calipatria City Fire, Calipatria Prison Fire, Yuma City Fire, Yuma Rural Metro Fire, Calexico Fire, El Centro Fire, Holtville Fire, Westmorland Fire, Centinela Prison Fire, and Naval Air Facility Fire Departments.

The Imperial Irrigation District and Red Cross are also assisting.

Authorities are asking the public to please avoid the area to allow emergency personnel conduct suppression operations.
