Fun Fourth of July celebrations around Yuma

Fourth of July is a great holiday to get together with family and friends to celebrate our nation’s independence.

News 11 teamed up with Visit Yuma to breakdown many of the events happening around Yuma County.

Recently, Yuma was named the most patriotic city in Arizona by Insurify .

With Yuma’s rich history, especially being surrounded by military bases, celebrating America’s independence is special for locals.

Visit Yuma’s Jennifer McDonald believes this year there’s an event for almost everyone.

” The flag raising at our Armed Forces Park. Wake up early, celebrate patriotism. Sit next to a service member, shake their hand. Hear from the leaders of our military community. ”

The flag raising ceremony will be held at the Armed Forces Park beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Later in the day, the City of Yuma is hosting a BBQ and firework presentation.

McDonald said, ” Everyone loves traditional fireworks. ”

In Somerton , there will be a Fourth of July celebration where the city will attempt to break the world record for the biggest water balloon fight.

” Who doesn’t love a water balloon fight on the Fourth of July, especially in Yuma’s hot weather, ” said McDonald.

McDonald recommends neighborhood parades like the Engler Estates and San Marcos Villas parade, for families with children.

Also, what’s a Fourth of July without great food?

” I think everyone might be looking for a hot dog and Crazy Earl’s is having a hot dog eating contest this year. So that’s a fun way if you’re looking to go out and really get stuffed, ” said McDonald.

Crazy Earl’s hotdog eating contest will start at 8 p.m. with a $100 grand prize.

Cocopah Casino is also hosting a free event with local vendors and a beer garden, w here there will be all sorts of authentic foods.

McDonald said, ” Not only can get your traditional American hot dog, but you can also get all sorts of authentic Mexican food. ”

One of the great things about this year’s event lineup is the majority of the events have free admission.

It is suggested to budget out some extra cash for food and drinks.
