Yuma Sector BP checkpoints seize $94k in meth and arrest 9

The Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working on Highway 78 and Highway 95 immigration checkpoints seized 31.4 pounds of methamphetamine and nine people were arrested in multiple smuggling events on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Blythe Station agents at Highway 78 checkpoint said they performed an immigration inspection on a silver Honda city with five people. Agents identified the four passengers as undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Agents said the driver was a lawful permanent resident from Panama. All individuals were arrested for immigration violations.

Agents working at the same checkpoint referred a white Chevy Cruze with three passengers to a secondary inspection area for further inspection, agents said. According to agents, they discovered methamphetamine wrapped around the midsections of two of the passengers. The narcotics weighed five pounds and have a street value of $15,000.

On Tuesday night, Blythe Station agents at Highway 95 immigration checkpoint referred a gray Toyota Corolla to a secondary inspection area for further investigation. The agent said 26.4 pounds of methamphetamine were discovered in the spare tire and door panels of the vehicle. The narcotics have a street value of $79,200 and the driver, a U.S. citizen from San Luis was arrested for narcotics smuggling, agents said.
