Community gears up for Night 2 of Democratic Presidential Debate

As night one of the Democratic Presidential Debate unfolded Wednesday night, News 11 spoke with several Democratic members of the community to hear what they thought about the first round of candidates.

The Yuma County Democratic Party and the Indivisible hosted a watch party Wednesday for the first Democratic Presidential Debate of the year.

There were moments of disappointment and then excitement that filled the room at the watch party. Members of the Democratic party said that immigration reform and climate change need to be center stage of the debate.

Here’s what those in attendance thought about the first round of performance of the group of candidates.

” Every time in history the Mexican-American community has been on the losing end of the debate and I think it’s important that we keep an ear out for the candidates that talk about the specific immigration crisis happening along the southern border, ” said Nathalie Hernandez, Co-Facilitator of the Yuma County Indivisible group.

” It was only in recent years during the Trump administration that crossing the border was turned into a felony, it had never been that way before, they now even call them criminal aliens, ” said Liz Haskell, Co-Facilitator of the Yuma County Indivisible group.
