Teen accused of shooting at officers will go to trial

The man, accused of shooting at three Yuma police officers while spraying graffiti on a wall, learned he will go to trial Wednesday.

Kane Perez was 17 at the time of the incident.

During his court appearance, Judge David M. Haws reviewed Perez’s plea offer and the consequences he faces when he goes to trial.

Perez also admitted to starting a fire that destroyed the Castle Park Playground in Yuma back in 2014 when he was a minor.

A three-and-a-half year investigation led officials to Perez’s connection to that fire.

His trial for the alleged aggravated assault incident against the officers will begin on October 8.
