A woman was arrested in Phoenix after police found six dead dogs and nine others suffering from malnutrition late Sunday night.
ABC 15 in Phoenix reported an officer was patrolling the area near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street when they smelled a strong odor of what they believed was a decomposed body.
According to a Phoenix police report, the officers checked the home and reportedly saw a dead dog in the center of the front room.
The police report also stated a neighbor told police they had not seen the homeowner for two to three days.
Police contacted the owner, 61-year-old Blanche Lopez, upon arrival and after entering her home, police allegedly found six deceased dogs and nine others showing signs of malnutrition.
Police said the home was covered in dog feces, dried, and fresh blood and the dead dogs were decomposing and maggot infested.
Lopez attempted to remove the dead dogs but refused to speak with officers, according to ABC 15. She was arrested and faces 15 counts of animal cruelty.
