Immigration attorney: Anti-immigrant group violating migrant rights
The anti-immigrant group known as the Arizona Patriots has stirred controversy with their live videos on Facebook. Videos show them trying to stop undocumented immigrants from entering the U.S.
The group is now facing multiple civil lawsuits from groups in Arizona. Immigration attorney Ray Ybarra said their actions could lead to possible criminal charges like privacy rights violations, after several posts on the group’s page shows legal documentation that asylum-seekers leave out in the desert.
” If you put someone else’s personal information in the public, that’s sending a messaging to the rest of your followers to go do something violent to that person or their families. They’re endangering the safety of these people, ” said Ybarra .
News 11 reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for a comment and the agency replied in a written statement saying, ” U.S. Customs and Border Protection does not endorse private groups or organizations taking enforcement into their own hands. Interference by civilians could have public safety and legal consequences. ”
News 11 spoke with the Representative of the AZ Patriots, Jen Harrison, who said the group is here to shed light to what they claim is really happening at the border.
The group will have an event Saturday called, ” Patriot Caravan to the Arizona Border ” . The event will take place at the Morelos Dam to try to stop undocumented immigrants from coming into the U.S.
News 11 reached out to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office for comment on this event. The agency stated it will not interfere with their protest unless any laws are broken.
